Your Global Moderator Status |
A Global Moderator is an Administrator-like position. You have the ability to use Moderator functions across all Boards and, if the Administrator allows, you may be able to edit some core settings of this YaBB community. You have been entrusted with the care and governance to ensure this growing community thrives.
For more information, please visit The YaBB Codex.
Please refer to the Glossary section in User Help if you need clarification on the different page views described in the sections below. The following image of the Moderator Menu is provided for reference. You may use the menu on the left to quickly jump to any topic below. You may use this ^ button at the bottom right of each Help section to return to the top of the Global Moderator Help page ^ |

Sticky Topics |
If you feel a topic is very important for everyone who visits the board you moderate, you may turn it into a "Sticky" topic. These topics will then be displayed on top of all other topics. A useful example would be for forum rules.

Hide a Topic |
If you don't want to delete a topic but want to keep it invisible to normal users, you can hide it. Hidden topics can only be viewed by Administrators, Global Moderators, and the Moderators of that board.

Move a Topic |
If you don't want to delete a Topic but you think it would fit better in another Board, you can use this option to move the Topic. This option will leave a message with a link in the listing of topics for the original Board that says "This topic has been moved to (link to new board name) by (person who moved it)". This lets users who have posted in the Topic know immediately where to find it, and gives them a quick way to navigate there.

Post Functions |
Modifying a Post |
You now have the ability to edit, modify, or delete any post on the Board(s) you moderate. This function will help you fight spam, remove unwanted language or content, censor users, add additions and much more. The directions below provide some specific steps on how to perform these functions:
Modifying a Post
Please note that a small line of text will show on the post stating that you have made an edit. As such, it is advised you also attach a reason to why you made the edit. This lets the admin, other moderators, the poster and the rest of the community know there was an issue. You can use the Edit button above the Post Window or the [edit][/edit] YaBBC tags to add a message about your edit. This will enclose your text in a box so it appears similar to the following example: Edited:I modified this post and this is why!

Deleting a Post |
If you believe a Post is inappropriate, a violation of the User Agreement or does not belong, you have the option of removing it from the Topic, without deleting the entire Topic.

Splitting a Topic |
In the event that a conversation begins to drift away from the subject, you may wish to split the Topic into two separate Topics by using the "Split" function. This enables you to move a Post and all the Posts under it into a brand new Topic where the different conversation can continue without distracting from the original.

Security |
Security Intro |
YaBB is very secure against all types of attackers. The many built-in features of YaBB provide safety for your forum against attacks. Realize, however, many of these security features are selectable, thus if you don't enable them, it can pose risks. Examples of this would be not using a Validation Image for registrations, or allowing Guests to post without a Validation Image check.
^ |
Sessions |
Sessions are a YaBB feature designed to protect administrative functions. If sessions are enabled in the Admin Center, staff will be required to revalidate their session whenever their network connection changes IP address.
To revalidate your session, simply click "Update Session" on the YaBB main menu at the top of the forum. If this link isn't present, then your session doesn't need to be updated. By default, it asks you for your Password to revalidate. That can be changed in your Profile, under the "Edit Profile" section, near the bottom of the list of settings. To check if sessions are enabled, go into the Admin Center/Security Center/Security Settings and look under the "General" tab. Sessions are enabled If the checkbox to the right of "Activate Session ID's" is checked. ^ |
Stealth Mode |
Stealth Mode is a YaBB feature designed to allow Administrators, Global Moderators, or both the ability to discretely monitor the forum's activity without being "seen". When this option is selected, Administrators and Global Moderators "Online" status is concealed from all other Member Groups and Guests.
This option is enabled by checking the box in the "Staff" tab found in the Admin Center/Forum Configuration/Forum Settings. ^ |
Administrative Functions |
The Forum Administrator may select what administrative functions the Global Moderators may control. The Administrator may restrict access to the Admin Center completely, or may choose to allow Global Moderators to control a selected list of these functions. These include items such as editing user Profiles, adding Members, deleting Members, editing the Forum News, altering forum Security Settings, and many more.
The best way to know for sure what options you have control over is to discuss them with the Forum Administrator. If your Administrator has given you access to the Admin Center, the various menus on the left will show you the functions you have at least some control over. GLOBAL MODERATOR TIP: Access to some screens in the Admin Center display options that you may not have access to. For example, the Administrator may allow you to ADD and VIEW members, but not DELETE members. The screen you view them on, however, contains checkboxes and buttons for the DELETE function. If you attempt to use these without having permission, it will result in you receiving an error message. This is NOT a bug - you don't have permission - and the program's proper response is to give you that error message. ^ |
