We live in turning point in a history of humans and Earth. Never
in the known history has it been so obvious that civilization has
to change its behavior towards nature. Thoroughly. And as soon as
possible.
Especially in the so called developed world, enthusiasm for faster
and faster technological progress made people forget about equilibrium
that should always be taken into account when intervening in nature.
Constant balancing is one of the basic characteristics of nature.
But looking at the human world it seems like the globe is about
to overturn: on one side of the planet wealth and power are building
up beyond reason, on the other side hunger and poverty just keep
growing. It is interesting to ask oneself why we have come to this
situation but the really important question is: what can one do
to make a difference. To make it better. To make people happier
and healthier.
We have reached a point where madly speedy and ever louder pace
of this artificially constructed world of society occupies us so
much that we forgot how to sense the silent voice of nature, of
Earth, whispering to us continuously. If we are not able to hear
it we cannot know what is in accordance with it and what is not.
And what is not in accordance with it cannot be the right solution.
If we harm nature we harm ourselves because we are her part. An
important part. We are merged in it like dolphins in the sea. We
cannot exist without it. We wouldn't have existed without it.
What have the poems got to do with it? Poets, artists, are extremely
sensitive people who are able to perceive other, more sophisticated
layers of the world. They can look at it from where it is even more
beautiful, fuller, clearer. Many of them have heard this silent
voice so strongly they had to put it in words or sound or color
or shape so they could have shared it with others. The magic of
their work is in the quality with which they express something eternal,
persuading and reminiscent what reminds of something that was believed
to be lost but is really always present within. Because it is the
essence.
The selected poems were created in different eras in history and
in various parts of the world, but the feelings pervading them can
be astonishingly similar. Walk through the poetry, feel the unity
in their diversity. Take your time, afford yourself some peace,
feel the nature within you and yourself within the nature. When
you start feeling that you are actually an integral part of something
immensely gigantic, like the Earth, like a universe – that is when
you know where your place is and what you have to do.
